Many people now enjoy their iPod and iPhone simply for their applications. While many phones and companies are starting to allow consumers to download applications for their phone, Apple is moving at such a rapid pace that many of these companies simply cannot compete with Apple.

So, we all know that the App Store contains thousands of unique applications, but how do you know which are worth paying for? In this blog, I will recommend 5 applications; some are fun games, while others are useful tools that just about everyone can use and utilize.

1.AppBox Pro -Now listed at a special introductory price of $0.99, this applications contains 18 different tools, with everything from a unit converter to a tip calculator. Even though some of these still have issues and bugs, this application will help you with school, or just work in general.

2. Falling Balls – This is listed as free in the App Store. As the name suggests, all you have to do is tilt your iPod and avoid falling balls. It may seem simple at first, but it gets difficult. If you’re looking for hours of simplistic enjoyment, you’ll love this app.

3. Classics – Featured in an Apple iPhone commercial, this application costs a mere $0.99, and it comes with 23 classic novels. The Iliad, Frankenstein, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are just some of the many wonderful books included in this application. Aside from the fact that it takes up 45.8 MB’s, it’s cheap and one of the most enjoyable applications available if you’re an avid reader, or just want to pass the time.

4. Yowza!! – Developed by Heroes star and Talk About It Foundation founder Greg Grunberg (@greggrunberg on Twitter), this application is partnered with many major companies and is designed to save you money. Depending on your location, it’ll find deals for certain stores within 15 miles of your current location and provide you with great offers that will really save you money. And the best part: Yowza!! is 100% free!

5. Bloons – Perhaps some of you have played the flash game for Bloons on Facebook, MySpace, or some other website. Regardless, you probably were easily amused by being a monkey trying to shoot enough balloons to make it to the next level. Well, this addicting game has been brought to the iPhone and is available for a mere $0.99. Plus, you can try Bloons Lite before you buy the full application.

My +1 – Alright, so I’m assuming you were thinking that I was going to include a magical application that would blow you away. Truth is, I’m going to suggest the best Twitter application that I feel is available right now: TwitterFon. A lot of people prefer Twitterific or TweetDeck, but I find that the simplicity of TwitterFon  makes it a lot easier to use. If you are just learning how to use Twitter, TwitterFon breaks the website down into the four main columns, plus it makes it so simple to retrieve all of the current Trending Topics on Twitter. Oh, and TwitterFon is free, but there is a pro version if you wish to buy it. I use the pro version so I can change the color scheme and use landscape mode, but you’ll be content with either version.

That concludes my blog on my favorite iPhone applications. If you have any that you think others will love, feel free to leave a comment with your suggestions, and be sure to check back here often for more blogs about social networking, technology, and just anything you think most people would like to read.
